There’s an unmistakable vibe to Lakewood. Foodies, hipsters, yuppies, artists, grandparents and kiddos happily mix and mingle in this community known for outdoor activities and community support.
Money magazine called it one of the “Top 10 Best Big-City Neighborhoods in the U.S.” and noted its beautiful setting on the rolling hills next to White Rock Lake. The area reaches out to include East Dallas, Casa Linda and Forest Hills, Swiss Avenue, Munger Place and Hollywood Heights.
It’s a community that embraces nature, with the lake and its 15 miles of trails and many tributaries serving as a giant playground to those who live and visit here.
Many of the neighborhoods’ iconic homes were built in the 1920s by architects such as Charles Dilbeck and Clifford Hutsell, who also influenced the look of local gathering places like the Lakewood Shopping Center.
This close-knit community is served by several Blue Ribbon schools, and every year the annual Fourth of July Parade draws generations of families to the sidewalks of Lakewood Boulevard. It’s one of the most welcoming neighborhoods in the area.
Around the neighborhood, you’ll find historic Hutsells and Dilbecks next to contemporary designs, ranging from $400,000 to $500,000 with the average in the low $700,000s. Some of the signature lakeside homes and estates reach into the millions.
