A Summer Block Party in the Dallas Arts District!

Dallasites know Late Nights at the DMA is always a treat, but from 6pm to midnight this Friday, you can enjoy an all-out artsy summer block party as the Dallas Museum of Art, the Crow Collection of Asian Art and Nasher Sculpture Center are all open until midnight!

Late Nights at the DMA- Summer Block Party!

PLUS, food trucks will be out in full force, and you can also take the party outdoors with Lawn Games at Klyde Warren Park for the duration of the evening. Click here to see a list of food trucks at this event.

Here’s a look at what’s happening at the Block Party tomorrow night. (Event information from the Dallas Museum of Art website).

Learn about wayang kulit, an elaborately staged performance art from Central and East Java using intricately carved flat puppets that cast detailed shadows. Then use a variety of materials to create your own character, which you will bring to life through movement.

In 1962, Claes Oldenburg staged a “happening” at the Dallas Museum for Contemporary Arts, recruiting local actress Flora Reeder and painter Jim Woodson. Texas artist Roy Fridge filmed the event, editing it into this black-and-white film of the daytime dress rehearsal. Film is 15 minutes and will be shown on a loop. This film is not rated.

San Antonio band Girl in a Coma has left a permanent tattoo on the hearts of music lovers with their piercing songs and nuclear performances. They have toured with Morrissey, Sia, The Pogues, and Amanda Palmer and contributed a song to Robert Rodriguez’s film Machete. The band has released four albums, including their latest, Exits & All the Rest.

EFF (Electric Freestyle Fantasy) make their return after a fifteen-year hiatus. Known for performing in unique situations, from playing inside a 50-foot inflatable money bag to playing inside a hollowed out fiberglass cow. For their return, expect to call the midwife as they are about to give birth to a giant cascarone containing a cacophony of ecstatic nuances aimed to titillate all five of your senses.
