Many people are afraid of antiques as dusty and fussy, or too formal and serious. But the right combination of vintage pieces and modern decor can have a powerfully striking effect and, is vital to building a chic, eclectic home.
The styles work so well together because the juxtaposition of sometimes ironically different decor becomes a style in itself and adds a sense of authenticity to your home. Plus, antiques are “green” since you’re recycling and reusing classic, well-made pieces with longevity unlike much of what is manufactured today.
Giving antiques a modern update packs a lot of style power, whether you’re reupholstering a vintage chair with a more modern fabric or refurbishing an antique dresser with a pop of fresh, contemporary color. Or, many times no updating is needed, since sometime an antique’s original design adds plenty of character and charm just the way it is.
