Foodie Friday: Meso Maya Takes Mexican Cuisine to the Next Level
Posted October 28th, 2011 | by The Update
In Texas, there are more than enough places to find good food with south-of-the-border inspiration— but sometimes a restaurant like Meso Maya comes along and takes things to the next level.
This new restaurant, located in the Preston Forest Shopping Center, describes itself as serving “simple, modern Mexican food,” but don’t let that fool you— this isn’t your run-of-the-mill Mexican food joint. Here, you’ll find authentic flavors that can only come from fresh, natural ingredients straight from Mexico and the Southwest US, as well as made-from-scratch moles, adobos, salsa, and hand-ground tortillas. Paper City recently made this comment concerning the authentic flavors of their cuisine:
When curating Meso Maya’s menu of south-of-the-border fare, [Chef Nico Sanchez], a native of southern Mexico, was inspired by his hometown cuisine. “This is what I grew up eating,” he says, of his no-nonsense recipes. Dining disclaimer: With tasty platos such as the cazuela de pollo (pan-seared chicken with yuka root and roasted poblanos) and the chef’s favorite, the conchinita pibil, a scrumptious, braised achiote pork with homemade habanero salsa, this is not your everyday Tex-Mex.”
No Mexican restaurant is complete without a margarita menu, and Meso Maya’s certainly doesn’t disappoint— for example, your typical strawberry frozen margarita is instead made on the rocks with fresh strawberries jazzed up with a serrano chile. They also boast a wine menu full of selections from Spain, South America and Mexico.
The decor is a fabulous southwest-modern thanks to contemporary design guru William Baker, who outfitted the restaurant’s interiors with sleek, industrial spaces juxtaposed with earthy natural wood and succulents adorning each dining room.
Visit them at 11909 Preston Road and check out their scrumptious menu online at mesomaya.com.
