Tuesday Trend Spotting: Reclaimed Wood Furniture
Posted September 6th, 2011 | by The Update
At the International Furniture Fair 2011 in Singapore, eco-chic furnishings were a major highlight of the event. Apartment Therapy reports,
Overall the furniture and furnishings represented displayed a great mix of the new (super-contemporary, new materials) and old (recycled materials, traditional styles). Many of the booths featured recycled or up-cycled materials and displayed a definite trend of resourcefulness.
That trend of being resourceful in home design is part of a new wave of designers, architects, and decorators who are looking to use sustainable, eco-friendly materials, often using recycled and salvaged wood, bamboo, metals, plastics, and more. From this, the trend of using reclaimed wood has risen to huge popularity.
While the word “reclaimed” may make you think of furniture that looks rugged and rustic, many furniture manufacturers, boutique furnishing companies, and independent sellers like those on Etsy.com are also taking reclaimed wood and other recycled materials and turning them into sleek, sophisticated furnishings that look brand new. The trend has caught on so well, you can find any type of furniture from chairs to beds to dining tables made of reclaimed wood, as well as a range of wood floors, wall paneling, cabinetry, and even countertops.
Here are a few samples of divine design using reclaimed wood that will inspire you to take part in this fashionable and eco-friendly furnishing trend:
